How we verify reviews
Email confirmation
A guest enters an email address. The site sends one magic link. The link expires after 10 minutes. The token is stored hashed. The report is not public until that address is confirmed. A signed-in member’s report uses the account email and is already confirmed.
Moderation
After confirmation the report is pending. A moderator approves it or hides it. Hidden reports leave the public hotel page. The moderator records why.
No proof of stay
The site does not collect a folio, a confirmation number, or a screenshot of a bill. A confirmed email is not proof that the person stayed. The hotel page says when a figure is based on few reports, and it leaves a rate blank when there are none.
How the numbers are calculated
These lines are read from the current code. Editing them in Payload does not change the sort.
- City and country hotel lists sort by the number of approved stay reports, then whether a lounge is on file, then whether suites are on file, then the hotel name.
- The home page features hotels with a lounge on file first, then suites on file, then the date the hotel was added. With no program selected, a hotel is featured only when a lounge or suites are on file.
- Search asks the on-server Meilisearch index for a text match. Its rules are words, typos, proximity, attribute, sort, then exactness. This site then re-ranks the hits: a hotel-name match counts three times, a brand match twice, city and country once, plus half a point for each approved stay report. Destination results are sorted by hotel count inside that index, then scored on the place name.
- The upgrade rate is the share of approved, visible, email-verified stay reports in which the member said the room moved up (a room upgrade or a suite upgrade), rounded to a whole percent. The suite upgrade rate counts suite upgrades only. Both are blank when that hotel has no such reports.
- The recognition score on a stay is the sum of four answers, each from 1 to 5 (status acknowledged, proactive service, felt valued, would recommend), divided by 2. The range is 2.0 to 10.0. The hotel figure is the average of those scores, to one decimal. It is blank when any of the four answers is missing.
- A stay or lounge report is public only after the email is confirmed with a magic link and a moderator marks it approved. The site does not ask for a folio, a booking number, or any other proof of stay.
